Division of Research

Research funding and recognition opportunities

A message from Vice President for Research Greg Hirth, originally sent to the Brown community via Today@Brown on Jan. 13, 2026, regarding updates on internal funding and recognition opportunities designed to catalyze new ideas and support research in the coming year.

As we look ahead toward the new semester and continue to focus on both individual and community healing given last month’s tragic events on our campus, I want to share my deep appreciation for the resilience and dedication you bring to our community. While we all move forward together, the Division of Research remains committed to fostering an environment where your research can thrive.

I am pleased to share several updates on internal funding and recognition opportunities designed to catalyze new ideas and support your work in the coming year:

  • Research Resilience Awards: The awardees for the Research Resilience Award track have been selected; we supported 14 projects from 10 different departments across campus. We wish to congratulate them on their success in securing this support for their vital work.
  • Research Achievement Awards: This year marks the 10th Anniversary of the Research Achievement Awards! Nominations for these awards are still being accepted through Tuesday, January 20. I encourage you to nominate colleagues whose excellence and impact deserve this special recognition. This year, Early-Career Awards and Mid-Career Awards will be offered.
  • Salomon Faculty Research Awards: Applications for these awards are currently open through Monday, February 9.
  • Division of Research Seed Program - Due Date Extension: To provide additional flexibility, we are extending the application deadline for full proposals to Tracks 2 and 3 from February 2 to Monday, February 16, at 9 a.m.
  • Humanities Research Funds: These funds will open this month to support faculty in the humanities and humanistic social sciences.

These programs are vital ways we continue to invest in our research mission and support the innovative work being done across our disciplines. I look forward to all that we will accomplish together in the months ahead.

Best wishes,
Greg Hirth, Vice President for Research
