The Division of Research at Brown aims to make the research administration process less complex by supporting Brown faculty, investigators and research teams at every stage of research, from defining a new research idea to securing funding, complying with regulations, managing awards, publicizing advances and protecting intellectual property.

Define and refine your research or scholarship themes, brainstorm potential collaborators and resources and survey potential funding opportunities.
Leverage the expertise of staff experts to identify internal and external funding opportunities, engage with funding agencies and align your research goals with funding priorities.
Navigate Brown’s internal review process to ensure your research proposal is ready for submission and complies with University and sponsor requirements.
Fulfill funding requirements and navigate regulatory compliance and ethical guidelines for work involving human subjects, animal care, export controls, data management, international collaborations and other regulated activities.
Monitor your budgets, expenses and salary allocations; manage subcontracts; communicate with subcontractors; and navigate financial and administrative issues.
Close out your grant obligations, reconcile finances and file reports required by the University and sponsors.
Communicate your work to raise awareness among peers and the general public, recruit researchers to fields of interest, attract industry partnerships and amplify the local and global reach of your research, innovation, expertise and scholarship.
Work with the Brown Technology Innovations (BTI) team to navigate the patent process when research results in the creation of intellectual property, make connections with industry and entrepreneurs and translate technologies and inventions for the greater good.
