Reducing Red Tape in Research (3RI)

Brown’s researchers are essential to the University’s mission and to building a better future. The University understands that minimizing administrative burden is critical to supporting your high-impact work. We are committed to making it as easy as possible for you to conduct your research and will be rolling out targeted solutions through the Reducing Red Tape in Research (3RI) initiative.

To that end, the Division of Research has established a cross-unit team to reduce red tape in the research process. This team is dedicated to identifying and eliminating unnecessary bureaucratic barriers that hinder the efficient conduct of research at Brown.

The first part of this effort is focused on the contract process, with additional solutions to follow. We look forward to sharing more information about how we will continue to improve efficiency for Brown’s world-changing researchers in the coming months.

Contract Support

Are you unsure which Brown University office should review, draft, or assist with your agreement or contract? Depending on the sponsor type and agreement type, your agreement could be handled by Research Agreements and Contracting (RAC), Brown Technology Innovations (BTI), the Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP), Strategic Procurement and Contracts (SPC), or other offices.

The survey is designed to streamline the process and connect you with the team best positioned to assist with drafting, negotiation, review, and routing. Once submitted, you’ll receive guidance on the appropriate next step and the office responsible for supporting your request.
