Division of Research

Advisory Boards

The Division of Research relies on advisory boards, including the Research Advisory Board, Brown Technology Innovations (BTI) Advisory Board and Brown Human Research Advisory Group (BHRAG) to facilitate feedback from the Brown research community on processes and policies.

Research Advisory Board

About the Research Advisory Board

The Research Advisory Board is the faculty advisory committee that counsels the Vice President for Research and Division of Research executive staff. In collaboration with several University offices and governing bodies, the Research Advisory Board advocates for the best possible research policies and procedures at all levels. Members representing the wide range of research fields at Brown attend monthly meetings during the academic year.

Board members review and make recommendations concerning research administration, the IRB, BTI and industry partnerships, research funding, external collaborations, interdepartmental communications and other matters within the purview of the Division of Research.

The Research Advisory Board creates standing and/or ad hoc committees and subcommittees as needed to handle specific matters under its broad charge.

Brown researchers with issues, agenda items and/or concerns to bring to the Research Advisory Board can contact orsd@brown.edu.

Brown Human Research Advisory Group

About BHRAG

The Brown Human Research Advisory Group (BHRAG) partners with the Human Research Protection Program (HPPP) team to ensure human subjects research at Brown is conducted ethically and responsibly.

Currently BHRAG members are about one-third Brown faculty and two-thirds Brown research staff. Members are required to attend at least one BHRAG meeting per year; recommend agenda items pertinent to human subjects research at Brown; communicate information presented at the BHRAG meetings to their respective departments, centers and/or institutes; voice feedback from the research community on process and policy changes and prioritize Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement (QA/QI) initiatives.

To learn about joining BHRAG, or to reach out to the advisory group for another reason, contact irb@brown.edu.
