Surgery in USDA-regulated species must be conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory documents as well as current veterinary medicine practices. This directive is based on the standards set forth in the USDA Animal Welfare Act, Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals and PHS policy.
Reference this directive prior to conducting surgery on species regulated by the USDA.
