National Institutes of Health (NIH)
The NIH requires "Other Support" for the Principal Investigator and all "Senior/Key Personnel." The NIH defines Senior/Key Personnel as individuals who "contribute in a substantive, meaningful way to the scientific development or execution of the project, whether or not salaries are requested." They also specify that "Other Significant Contributors" (who do not propose measurable effort) do not need to submit this information. NIH requires that Other Support training must be implemented by October 1, 2025 and that applicants must complete Research Security training prior to submitting proposals on or after January 25, 2026.
National Science Foundation (NSF)
The NSF uses the term "Current and Pending Support." This is a required document for each individual designated as "Senior/Key personnel" in a proposal. The NSF emphasizes that this is for assessing an individual's capacity to carry out the research and to prevent scientific or budgetary overlap. Research Security training for NSF applicants is required for proposals submitted on or after October 10, 2025.
Department of Defense (DoD)
The DoD also requires a list of all current and future support for all “key personnel.”
Department of Energy (DoE)
The DoE requires a full disclosure of current and pending support for the Principal Investigator (PI) and each senior/key person at both the prime applicant institution and any proposed subawardees. A Research Security training requirement became effective for DOE applicants on May 1, 2025.
National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)
NASA also requires the submission of "Current and Pending (Other) Support" forms for each individual identified as a senior/key person on a NASA-funded project including PI, Co-PIs and Co-Is who are proposing to spend 10% or more of their time in any given year on the project.
