Limited Submissions

A limited submission is a funding opportunity in which the sponsor limits the number of applications an institution may submit. They require institutional nomination or endorsement and are open to a limited number of applicants from Brown. Opportunities may be funded by federal agencies, foundations or private funders.

Find Limited Submission Funding Opportunities

Research Strategy and Development (RSD) maintains a database of limited submission funding opportunities that require institutional nomination or endorsement and/or are eligible to a limited number of applicants from Brown. While every effort is made to identify and announce programs with limitations on proposal submissions, the limited submission database is not a comprehensive listing, and it is the investigator's responsibility to contact RSD should the program in which they are interested be restricted but not on this list. The vice president for research will then determine if an internal competition is necessary and will assist the investigator in obtaining institutional endorsement.

Limited Submission Process

Limited submissions follow a nomination process led and managed by Research Strategy and Development (RSD) on behalf of the Division of Research.

Applications or nominations submitted without proper institutional endorsement, or submission of a number over the limit, may result in automatic rejection of all Brown proposals, so it is important for researchers to understand the process.

Announcements

Limited submission funding opportunity announcements include a description of the opportunity, the eligibility criteria, the internal deadline for submission and any other guidelines that could lead to a more competitive proposal. Brown maintains a searchable database of limited submission opportunities.

Committee Review

The offices of the Dean of Medicine and Biological Sciences, Dean of Public Health, Dean of Engineering, and/or the Dean of Faculty will take part in the review process in coordination with a faculty review committee.

Limited Submissions Calendars

The intent of the Limited Submission Calendars is to enable the Brown research community more time to plan for high-profile, regularly-occurring limited submission opportunities. Calendars require a brown.edu email to access.
