October 23, 2024—IMPACT Research at Brown magazine, produced by the Division of Research at Brown University, received a Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) Best of CASE District I award in the category of alumni/general interest magazine printed once a year for the 2023 issue.
IMPACT 2023 is the sixth annual issue since the publication was launched in 2018 as a retrospective highlighting some of Brown’s most significant research stories from the previous year.
This issue reached a new level with its ambitious cover story on aging research and the addition of three new departments: ‘Immersive Research,’ spotlighting undergraduate summer research internships; ‘Future Impact,’ a Q&A looking to research developments ahead; and ‘Brown Invents,’ highlighting medical solutions with commercial potential, startups based on Brown research, and novel technologies in development.
The cover story, “Discoveries in Aging Research,” reports on the breadth of Brown’s research on aging. From biology, neuroscience, biochemistry, and engineering to psychology, psychiatry, gerontology studies, and public health, researchers are examining the basic science behind aging, conducting clinical research on age-related diseases and disorders, and developing nonpharmaceutical interventions in elder care to help people live longer, healthier lives.
“I submitted IMPACT for consideration because I believed in the quality and excellence of what we had created, from the new departments to the exceptional writing, inspiring stories, and preliminary redesign,” said Sherri Miles, research communications manager in the Division of Research and Impact magazine editor. “The CASE award is a testament to the tremendous collaborations that made this external acknowledgment possible.”
