An unknown error most often occurs when the size of the file is too large to upload to Coeus.  This often occurs with final, large proposal files downloaded from Grants.gov Workspace, Research.gov (National Science Foundation), Assist (National Institutes of Health) and similar platforms.

You have two options to bypass this error: Reduce the file size by flattening the file or split the large file into parts and upload separate, smaller sized documents to the Narrative. 

How to Print to PDF

Reduce the file size by attempting to flatten the file using the “Print to PDF” feature:

1. Select a file in any application that prints and open it. 

2. Choose File > Print.

3. Choose Adobe PDF from the list of printers in the printer dialog box. 

4. Click Print. 

If after using “Print to PDF” the file is still too large to properly upload, you may need to divide it into sections and upload each section of the document in multiple parts to the Narrative section.  Still use the “Print to PDF” method on each section of the document to ensure that that PDF is small enough.
